Tribute to Participant Media - Darfur Now
USA, 2007, 99 Min, English, English and Hebrew Subtitles
Within the unbearably chaotic situation of genocide in Darfur, Sudan, this film calls for an end to the catastrophe, as it presents the struggles and impressive achievements of six human beings, who show that the power of the individual can help millions of suffering people. Among these individuals are the tribal chief that became the leader of 47,000 refugees in a camp in West Darfur; a woman whose infant was battered to death, and decided to join the rebels; the head of the UN world food program, who left his wife and children in Ecuador so he could take care of the food supply lines and other needs of the refugees - despite the daily threats to his life.
In contrast, the Sudan ambassador to the UN, who claims an injustice has been made with regards to the way in which his government is presented to the world, and that reports of the situation and the definition of "genocide" are greatly exaggerated.
