31 years ago, the young director, Philibert, worked as an assistant to René Allio who directed the film, "I am Pierre Riviere who murdered my mother, my sister and my brother". The film was based on an event that took place in Normandy in 1835, when a young farmer killed his family without any apparent motive. The diary written by the murderer was used by the philosopher, Michelle Pukau, to write a book about the incident, and René Allio chose to re-enact the murder according to Pukau, using the locals as actors. The job of finding the right characters for the parts was assigned to Philibert.
A generation later, Philibert returns to the place, meets the "stars", picks their memory and his own, learns what impact their involvement in the film had on their lives, and also examines their environment through updated eyes.
