Made in L.A.
USA, 2007, 70 Min, Spanish and English, English & Hebrew Subtitles
Following three work immigrants who entered the USA illegally, the bitter facts become clear. Today, in the center of L.A, textile workers are employed in appalling conditions of slavery: 14 hours working day, salaries well below minimum wages, no social benefits and factories that look exactly as they did a hundred years ago, and shady, contractors'' business practices. All of this, by the way, is perfectly legal.
Three women – Maura from El Salvador, who left behind three infants she has not seen for 18 years; Maria whose drunken husband does not support her nor does he allow her to be active; and Lupe, a single woman, who escaped from her home in Mexico where she was abused by male members of her family – are leading demonstrations every Saturday, month after month, year after year, losing hope and recovering, learning how to organize the struggle, and their demands for what they rightfully deserve.
