BEETHOVEN’S HAIR
Canada/Austria, 2005, 84 Min., Video, English and German, English & Hebrew Subtitles

One bright day, a neat, plain brown paper parcel was placed on the desk of Ira Brilliant, a wealthy retired resident of Arizona. He waited for the right moment to unwrap it, as he knew it contained a rare piece of history - a lock of the composer Ludwig Van Beethovens hair. Brilliant purchased it at an auction, together with his partner: an urologist using the pseudonym Che Guevara, who shares his obsession with the German composer. The film tracks the locks mysterious voyage from 19 th century Vienna to Denmark and from there to Arizona, at the beginning of the 21 st century. In addition, it studies the life and death of the famous composer, and the illness that caused him to lose his hearing. Weinstein set out on a surprising, amusing and breathtaking voyage into the history of Europe and that of Medicine, while giving his audience a rare glimpse of real music lovers who maintain an intimate relationship with Beethoven’s work.
