PRIVATE PRACTICES: THE STORY OF A SEX SURROGATE
USA, 1986, 75 Min., Video, English, Hebrew Subtitles

Maureen Sullivan a beautiful pleasant and elegant woman is a therapist that uses sex to treat her patients. She teaches them how to love, and touch a partner. Her patients are Kipper, 25 years old, with almost no experience with women, and John, 45 years old, a math teacher, who divorced after 20 years of marriage. For 4 months in 1983, Kirby Dick documented Maureens meetings with both of them, meetings that became  ncreasingly intimate. Maureen and her patients succeeded to completely ignore the embarrassment caused by the presence of the camera and give in to their joint sensual pleasure. The film addresses the process of becoming intimate as well as the questions raised by this form of treatment; such as what happens when the patient falls in love with the therapist, or when she falls in love with him. Gradually we realize that Maureen needs her patients no less than they need her: “I think that I do this because I myself don’t know how to love. I didn’t have the opportunity to see much love around me, and I thought that if I practiced it ten times a week - I would finally learn”
