SICK - THE LIFE AND DEATH OF BOB FLANAGAN - SUPER MASOCHIST
USA, 1997, 90 Min, Video, English, Hebrew Subtitles
Robert Flanagan’s parents knew that their son has Cystic Fibrosis - CF, a disease that will cause him an early death. But they never imagined that their introvert and shy boy is developing a unique hobby in their house basement, that in time will overshadow all the physical pain and tortures he had experienced - the art of Sado-Masochism. When he rew older, Flanagan met his princess - Sheree Rose, a ''true queen'' and became her slave. He completely succumbs to her every whim and lets her do to him as she pleases. Regardless of the pins and needles she sticks nto his skin and the nylon stockings she uses to strangle him to satisfy him sexually, Flanagan is convinced that Rose is only too kind, and should be stricter with him than she is. Kirby met Flanagan in the eighties, and documented his extremely outstanding life, shifting from art, activities of the SM community and volunteering in summer camps for CF children. The ever present death is late in coming and Flanagan becomes one of the oldest CF patients alive in the world. Could Flanagan have succeeded in postponing his death by fighting his disease with a different one? At the closing of the film the sad reality
surprises even Flanagan who was willing to try anything - at least once.
