SHOOTING UNDER FIRE
Germany, 2005, 72 Min, Video, English, Hebrew Subtiles
The Israeli Palestinian conflict as observed and documented by the German Reuters photographer Reinhard Krause, who came to Israel at the beginning of the second Intefada and left a year ago. For several moths the camera followed Krause while covering suicide bombings in Israel to documenting clashes and targeted killings in the West Bank and Gaza (before the Disengagement). Krause tries to explain the ethical ilemmas he faces; when to censor the events? When to stop being a mere documentary reporter?. Under his authority work two Israeli Reuters photographers Gil Magen and Nir Elias and the Palestinian Gaza resident Ahmed Jdaliah, all three present their angle to the story which naturally is charged with their own political opinion. It is a film that succeeds to present a comprehensive image of Israel as seen by outsiders.
