The Congo River, second largest in Africa, has always enchanted the Europeans. The name Congo is associated with the collective awareness to discoverers of new frontiers such as Livingstone and Stanley, the cruel colonialism during the reign of the Belgium monarchies Leopold II and Boduin, to Lumumbas uprising and the tyrannical dictatorship of Mobuto. But regardless of the any wounds this vast land has suffered, life and the river that symbolizes them prevail. It is this life that in feature in Thiery Michel''s monumental and exquisite film, leading us from the rivers estuary to its source in the heart of the jungles. Traveling along its banks we encounter the joy and pain of people who create the colorful human mosaic of Congo. Theiry shows us that beyond past tragedy and bloody history there are hope and happiness to be found in tradition, songs and dance. The films sound track was written by Lukoa Kanza a prominent African musician.
