SISTERS IN LAW
UK, 2005, 104 Minutes, Video, English and Pidgin English, English & Hebrew Subtitles

The film takes place in Kumba Cameroon, presenting a feminist portrait of the changing Cameroonian society, by focusing on three women: a Marital Court Judge, a Policewoman and a State Prosecutor, all representing the tremendous change this African state is undergoing. The film follows three cases brought to court: six year old Grace beaten by her sadistic aunt; ten year old Sunit rapped by her neighbor, Nigerian and Amina, a devout Muslim, who after 18 years of marriage summons the courage to divorce her violent and abusive husband. The three women
representing the law support the victims and encourage them to give their evidence in full. The result is an optimistic film that succeeds in shattering all the stereotypical concepts we have of Africa, and which ends leaving us with a rare feeling of satisfaction and the prevalence of justice.
